Australian Discovery Orchestra Concert

It was billed as ‘the most heartwarming concert of the year’ and it didn’t disappoint. Twenty-five of Daphne’s students were given the experience of a lifetime, performing with a professional symphony orchestra.

Members of the Australian Discovery Orchestra generously offered their time and expertise to accompany Daphne’s students in pieces ranging from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to the gorgeous Fantasia on Greensleeves by Vaughan Williams. The look on the faces of the children when they first heard the orchestra strike up was priceless.

The students rehearsed with the orchestra on Saturday, then Sunday was concert day. They performed solos, duets and trios with the orchestra and every performance sparkled. The grand finale saw 13 students lined up on two pianos, playing ‘We’ve Got Rhythm’.

It was difficult to tell who enjoyed themselves more — the students or the orchestra members. It was a wonderful collaboration all around.

Michael’s parents said, “Watching Michael perform with a full orchestra at the Keys of Life Concert in 2019, was one of the most memorable experiences of his musical journey, an opportunity we would never have imagined possible. It has now inspired him to learn the violin, which he is thoroughly enjoying.”

No doubt the orchestra violinists will be delighted to hear that news.

The Keys of Life Foundation would like to thank all the members of the Australian Discovery Orchestra, particularly their Managing Director, Janine Hanrahan, and Principal Conductor, Kevin Purcell.
